God works in mysterious ways. Individuals inspired by that same Spirit work in mysterious ways too. Humanity is more challenged by hate filled bullets, indifference and poverty rather than the form a positive message may take. We cannot separate from life those who inspire us nor can we dilute the possibilities in which we communicate that inspiration. The three individuals you mention should not be treated as religious relics but rather teachers of our times. Their words are more powerful and more relevant today than when they first resonated decades ago.
Finally, criticism is progressive provided it is not indulgent in self-righteousness or malevolence.
